Day 8 of 10 - 2019 Pacific Northwest Road Trip - Port Orford, OR to Ferndale

As we neared Crescent City, having stayed there once before, I knew exactly what I wanted to show everyone––Jedediah Smith Redwoods State Park. Back in 2013 I saw the Grove of Titans, which was absolutely amazing. This time I wanted to check out the Boy Scout Tree Trail, which ended up working out well since the Grove of Titans had been closed for rehabilitation and construction (they're building a wooden path up and around the trees to protect against visitor impact).

This entire forest of redwoods seems something out of a fantasy setting––a land for giants or dinosaurs and certainly not tiny humans. The scale truly is remarkable. Walking amongst the quiet, living towers feels as if you were transported to another planet or shrunk to a ridiculously miniature scale. Even the ferns make you feel small. Everything feels surreal.

We arrived late in the day, just as the sun was setting, which prevented us from hiking further down the trail (not to mention we still yet had distance to travel that evening). One day I hope to return with more than an hour's worth of time to spare, but for now, incredibly thankful for the glimpse we were given.
